“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test.” (2 Corinthians 13:5 NIV)
Listen to what Jesus said:
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? (Luke 6:46)
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven. Many will say unto me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name have done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:21-23)
Why would Jesus tell these people that he never knew them? Don’t they believe in him? They know that Jesus is the Christ. But that level of belief does not constitute a saving knowlege of Jesus. “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” (James 2:19)
These are people who know about the Lord, but they have no personal relationship with him. They never trusted Jesus to save them. They never demonstrated true faith in Jesus Christ, and they were never born spiritually into the family of God.
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
In order to be born of God, you have to seek him out for yourself. “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.” (Isaiah:55:6)
The Lord said in Jeremiah 29:13, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” You can’t make a half-hearted attempt at communicating with him. You have be in earnest.
You have this promise from the Bible: “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.” (James 4:8)
Make up your mind, once and for all, that you are going to turn away from sin. Receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and be converted. That means, to make a committment to Jesus that you are going to follow him for the rest of your life. And that includes keeping the Love Commandment.
